Larry Birkhead to sponsor “Dannielynn’s House” in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville
Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville (HFHML) is proud to announce that native Louisvillian Larry Birkhead is sponsoring the construction of new a Habitat home. The house will be called “Dannielynn’s House: In Memory of Anna Nicole and Daniel Wayne Smith,” named in honor of both Birkhead’s daughter, her mother, the late Anna Nicole Smith and brother Daniel Wayne Smith.
“This entire project is about the strength it takes to be a single parent—the difficulties you have to face,” said Birkhead. “I can really relate to that now, raising Dannielynn on my own. Anna Nicole's struggle as a single parent with her son Daniel was another reason that inspired my sponsorship of "Dannielynn's House."
A single mother and her three daughters, two of whom have Spina Bifida, will purchase Dannielynn’s House upon its completion.
Birkhead’s sponsorship involves covering half the construction costs of the home and working alongside volunteers during the “Raise the Roof” weekend. A Ground Blessing ceremony will take place April 25th to celebrate the beginning of construction. Women for Habitat (WFH) will coordinate the volunteer effort for the “Raise the Roof” weekend of April 25th and 26th. To be put on the volunteer waiting list email info@louisvillehabitat.org or call Habitat Louisville’s Volunteer Coordinator Susan Lawler at (502) 637-6265 ext. 34.
Rob Locke, Executive Director of Habitat Louisville, said, “We are so impressed with Mr. Birkhead for teaching his daughter the value of community service and helping others. She may be too young to appreciate it now, but in the future she will see how this project has impacted a family’s life.”
